too to 太…而不能…

主詞+be動詞+too+形容詞+for 人+to VR.

The house in Taipei is too expensive for us to buy. (台北的房子太貴了以致於無法買。)

主詞+一般動詞+too+副詞+for 人+to VR.

Jason speaks English too quickly for Mary to understand.
(Jason講英語講太快了，以致於Mary無法理解。)

I am too old to stand up by myself. 我太老了以至於無法獨自站立

I ran too slowly to win the game. 我跑太慢以致於我無法贏得比賽

too為副詞，修飾形容詞或副詞；to後接原形動詞。

如果too之前出現否定的never或not，意思就變成「做……不會太……」。

One is never too old to learn. 活到老學到老

It’s never too late to learn. 活到老，學到老。

It’s never too late to pursue your dreams. 追求夢想永遠不會太晚。

若句中要加入其他對象，則須以for 人放在to V 前

The vest is too small for Mary to wear.

注意:不使用to wear the vest or to wear it 因為To VR是補充說明用的，主詞the vest已經帶出受詞是the vest故不需再寫一次。

此句是使用動詞因此too後面需使用副詞修飾動詞。(slowly修飾walked)

Lisa 說太快了以致於無法贏得比賽。(fast為副詞修飾speak)

Peter去年跑太慢了以致於無法贏得比賽。

enough為副詞，修飾形容詞或副詞；to後接原形動詞。

如果用否定not Adj/Adv enough to則表示「不足以……；不夠……」。

The river is not clean enough to swim.

主詞+be動詞+so+形容詞+that+子句.

主詞+一般動詞+so+副詞+that+子句.

Jason speaks English so quickly that Mary can’t understand him.

so為副詞，修飾形容詞或副詞 ;that 之後接完整子句(有主詞有動詞的句子)，that之後的肯定或否定決定該句子是能夠或不能夠。

I am so old that I can’t stand up by myself. 我太老了以至於無法獨自站立

I ran so slowly that I can’t win the game. 我跑太慢以致於我無法贏得比賽

Mary is so tall that she can get the book from the shelf. 瑪莉夠高以至於能夠從櫃子拿書

The vest is so small that Mary can’t wear it.

注意: that 後面要使用完整語句，因此wear為及物動詞，因此需使用受詞it

such that文法

如此的大麻煩以致於沒人想面對它。

too to 與so…that比較

too….to… 句型本來就有否定意思，因此不能再使用not。
So…that… 本身非否定用語，因此若要表示「太~以至於不能…」that之後須使用否定句。

The girl is too short to get the box.
The girl is so short that she can’t get the box.

too…to…不定詞之後所接的受詞與主詞同一人、事、物時，受詞不可再出現。
so…that…句型中，that後所接為獨立子句，因此其後之句子不受前面主詞的影響，因此需把受詞寫出。

The tea is too hot to drink.→drink 後不需再接it(the tea)
The tea is so hot that I can’t drink it.→that之後主詞為I ，需寫出it語意才完整。

關係代名詞 that 當連接詞使用，連接句子 ( 即 ” 主詞 + 動詞 ” 結構 )。

天氣如此地熱，我想吃冰淇淋。

It is so hot today that I feel like having ice cream.

It is such a hot day that I feel like having ice cream.
