neither…nor/either…or…/not only but also

Neither nor (不是…也不是…),兩者皆非當連接詞使用, A和B必須是同詞性的名詞、動詞、形容詞、副詞。

Neither nor 連接主詞

Neither Mary nor Cindy plays the piano. (不是Mary 也不是Cindy彈鋼琴) 【兩位都沒彈】

Neither A nor B以靠近動詞的為主詞,因此這裡靠近動詞的是B,因此以B為主詞,Cindy為第三人稱單數,現在式動詞需加S

Neither Ella nor my students play basketball. 此句的主詞為my students 因此動詞為play

Neither nor 連接動詞

I can neither play the guitar nor sing the song.

(我既不會彈吉他也不會唱歌) neither 與nor 接為否定意思,不使用not

I like neither math nor science.我既不喜歡數學也不喜歡自然。=I don’t like either math or science.

The child can’t either read or write.=The child can neither read nor write.那小孩既不會讀也不會寫。

Neither A nor B連接形容詞

The flower is neither beautiful nor cheap.  (花既不漂亮也不便宜)

The house is neither big nor comfortable.房子既不大也不舒適。

Neither…nor…連接名詞

Mary can play neither basketball nor baseball.(Mary 暨不會打籃球也不會打棒球)

Jack left the key neither on the table nor in the drawer.Jack鑰匙既不是放在桌上也不是抽屜。(連接地方副詞)

either or (不是就是)【兩者擇一】

or 的意思本來就是或者,所以就是兩個其中一個是

用法與neither A nor B一樣,只是語意不同

Either Mary or Cindy plays the flute.(不是Mary就是Cindy吹直笛)【兩個其中一個做了某事】

My father likes either apples or pears.(我父親不是喜歡蘋果就是梨子)

You can bring either some drinks or some snacks to the party. 你可以帶一些飲料或是零嘴來派對。

Either Judy or Gigi can ride a motorcycle. Judy或是Gigi會騎摩托車。

In my free time, I can either go mountain climbing or go swimming.我有空時,我不是會去爬山,就是去游泳。

not only but also (不只是還有…)

【兩者皆有】但強調B 用法與上面兩個連接詞皆相同 not only …. but …. (其中also 可以省略)

Not only Cindy but also Mary plays the violin.(Mary 和Cindy 都拉小提琴)

I can not only play Frisbee but also roller-skate.(我不只喜歡飛盤也喜歡溜冰)

The car is not only cheap but also beautiful.車子不只便宜也很漂亮。

Not only is she a good wife, but she is also a good teacher.

=She is not only a good wife but also a good teacher.她不僅是得好太太,也是一名好老師。
